Alex Job Racing – Alex Job Racing has added Lotus factory and Lotus Evora GT driver Johnny Mowlem for Petit Le Mans.
Lotus Alex Job Racing has added Lotus factory driver Johnny Mowlem to the driver lineup for Petit Le Mans. Mowlem will join Bill Sweedler and Townsend Bell for the Oct. 20 race at Road Atlanta.
Mowlem has raced in every category in the ALMS Series, and has logged more time behind the wheel of the Lotus Evora GT than any other driver. This year, he has competed in the ALMS Series with Dyson Racing in LMP1. This will be his first time behind the wheel of the Lotus Alex Job Racing Evora.
“I have always had enormous respect and affection for Alex and Holly Job and their racing team,” Mowlem said. “Ever since I first started racing in the ALMS series back in 1999, and they were always the GT benchmark. Alex and I have spoken often about the possibility of driving for him, but for one reason or another, I’ve always ended up competing against him rather than for him, so I am absolutely delighted to be finally getting a chance to join his team. I have been very interested in watching the AJR Lotus Evora, from afar, when racing this year in the LMP1 class of the ALMS. The car has gotten better and better as the season has progressed.
“As a factory Lotus driver, it was always a given that at some point I would join AJR and their Lotus Evora GT program, especially as I have done the bulk of the early development on the Evora in Europe last year. But, I know how much extra work AJR has done to develop the Evora further this season, and I am excited to get a chance to see and feel that for myself. I know that team partners Yokohama and Cosworth, in particular, have been working extremely hard to get the Evora closer and closer to the front, and for me personally this is a real labor of love as I know how much potential this car has still left untapped.”
Mowlem raced the Evora at Petit Le Mans last year in the World Endurance Championship, and Alex Job, team principal, said that Mowlem brings experience to the team.
“We have known Johnny for a number of years, usually as a competitor within our class,” Job said. “He brings a familiarity with the Evora GT that we welcome. I know he will be impressed with what we’ve done with the car in a short period of time. I am most interested in what he will carry back to the Lotus factory regarding how the car performed and become an in-house lobbyist for us in taking the next steps in the development of the car for 2013 with his first-hand experience from Petit.”
